A seasoned business executive with years of professional expertise spanning energy, environmental and biotechnology industries, Dr. Castor excels as the president and chief executive officer of Aphios Corporation and its subsidiaries, through which he specializes in green-enabling technology platforms to improve drug discovery and manufacturing, nanotechnology drug delivery, and pathogenic drug safety. With the use of these platforms, Dr. Castor and his team at Aphios are developing therapeutics for cancer, infectious diseases such as HIV, and central nervous system disorders such as Alzheimer’s disease. Additionally, he is the main inventor of the company’s 88 patents and 38 pending patents.
An expert in his field, he earned a Bachelor of Science in Chemical Engineering from the University of Toronto. He then expanded his professional education by completing a Master of Science in Chemical Engineering and a PhD in Mechanical Engineering from the University of California, Berkeley before embarking on his professional journey. During the early stages of his career, Dr. Castor gained valuable experience with executives from companies such as ERCO, GE, Lilly, Bristol-Myers Squibb and Novartis.
Outside of his work, Dr. Castor has contributed to his community as a volunteer with minority-based STEM programs at UC Berkeley, MIT and Harvard Medical School. While his career has been filled with many highlights, he takes the most pride in his wife, daughter, and sons. Professionally, he has made a number of contributions to the healthcare industry, specifically in regard to cancer supportive care, Alzheimer’s disease and HIV. Looking toward the future, Dr. Castor intends to utilize the technologies they have developed at Aphios to establish itself as a leader in the biotechnology industry. He plans to focus on a more environmentally sustainable approach to reduce pathogen levels, improve the efficacy of mRNA and influenza vaccines to mitigate pandemics, and develop curative therapeutics for HIV and Alzheimer’s disease.
